Review:

Eva Evergreen is the daughter of an extraordinary witch but Eva herself only has a pinch of magic. Whenever she uses her magic, she loses energy and can even pass out. To become a novice witch, Eva has to travel to a city and 'do good' within a month.

This was an adorable book! Eva was a likeable character who always tried her best to help others. It was great seeing her grow and make new friends. Even though people treated her unfairly, Eva didn't give up. Seeing this kind of resilience in a children's fantasy is brilliant and I feel like this would be a great read for children and adults who love middle grade fantasy.

In parts, this book was slow paced with the main antagonistic situation for the plot happening later on in the book, there was a lot of slice of life type situations of Eva in the town, meeting others and working out spells. This worked well for character-building and enhancing the plot but it wasn't always propelling me through the book. Despite this, I am so glad I kept reading. The ending was amazing and now I need to wait for the second book which releases in 2022!

My rating: 4/5 stars
