With the rise of video sharing platforms and viewership, are blogs still relevant in 2023?
Blogs first became popular when blogging platforms like Tumblr and blogger were created. There was a surge in blogging in the late 2010s with seemingly many bloggers becoming popular on platforms like Twitter and working with companies.
This year in particular there seems to have been a marked decrease in engagement on social media platforms like Twitter (now X). BlueSky seems to have a low level of engagement. Instagram and TikTok can work but not for everybody. I still find a lot of blogs on Pinterest but there are a lot of sponsored posts within Pinterest feeds now which can make it more difficult to navigate, therefore less user friendly. There are still people who use websites such as Reddit, Tumblr and Medium.
A lot of authors have their own blogs. With algorithm changes it can be very difficult to find blogs.
Amazingly, I still see traffic from sources such as Google and Pinterest. Social media and engagement groups can also help a little.
Although the content is less visible (such as bloggers sharing their successes), it does seem to still be possible to promote and grow a blog in 2023. However, growth can be slow and is not guaranteed.
